The Simple Life

There was a man
who drew a straw
to win a life of flaws.

He had a plan he went by
the rest could just be damned
to make his life worth living
and to finally take command.
But he forgot that life was simple
while he worked so hard at living
he missed all the important signs
that could make a life worth giving.
Then it began
he worked so hard
his life went on too long
he kept on trying for the prize
his tears became his song.
If he would see without the haze
understanding was the prize
with the simple life in tow
there were no more lies.
No need to hope
no need to pray
no need to clear the smoke
the simple life would calm us all
then take away our hope.
The trail would then lead to a life
where thought was understanding
then even blindness we could see
would offer a crash landing.
But being simple can turn on you
will show you the wrong way
then it will stop you moving on
and never let you play.
So when your life is easy
remember what is true
the real secret is that there are lies
in what is taught to you.
Being simple bears no fruit
and if you take the time
real life will keep on walking by
and leave you far behind.
Life is hard, it's tragic
sometimes it plods along
and if you find that simply being
is the melody of your song
then you've found a clue, you have
to make your life feel strong.
So this man who had a plan
played hard his whole life through
and when he drew the shortest straw
his prize was good for few.
Now few was fine, among divine
the man felt honored then
but when he turned the page to write
he found he'd never been.
