Darkness Earth

Somewhere in the darkness
where lighting strikes it's way
worn out people crying helpless
as the frightened wait for day.
Walking wounded stare off coldly
the priestess learns to pray
laughing stops at the door step
while others wait to stay.
No one knows the likelihood
of eating soup for one
but it is fairly certain that
the cooking's almost done.
Writing letters, reading books
both have had their time
and as we look upon the moon
we are still waiting for the chime.
No one sees the brilliance
of lonely men softly speaking
with warnings of a change that comes
to the air you breath that's reeking.
You may be free to question
all the changes that occur
but questions make no difference
it won't matter if you concur.
Time is not on our side
we are temporary guests
and when you see the damage done
it's non-compliance at its best.
So side-step all the lightning
ignore those that are needy
believe you can see in the dark
and breath the air most freely.
Then the time will come for you
to live a different life
one in which your time has come
to learn of horrid strife.
And when you're in the darkness
praying for the day
remember what the priestess learned
it's your time to truly pay.
For darkness must become your friend
must calm you as you wake
for it is all that's left to come
in earth's destructive wake.
